Spas

Polish Spas provide excellent opportunities for medical treatment as well as relaxation. In addition to their unique climatic conditions and mineral springs, they offer specialized medical services. They are attractively located among beautiful landscapes near national parks and reservations. A stay at the Polish spa is ideal for someone who has a health problem or simply needs peace and quiet.

The traditions of health spas in Poland go back to the XIII century, but they did not really flourish until the XVIII and XIX centuries, when many centers for natural treatment were established. They made use of the curative properties of mineral waters in the form of mineral water baths and drinks. At the time, Polish spas were frequented by Austrian, German, French, and American visitors.

At present, polish spas are similar to such establishments in other European countries, although may be less urban and crowded, and not so dominated by the car and the problems associated with it. Each spa has the local curative substances, such as waters or mud, as well as a park, some facilities for natural therapy, a mineral well-room, clinics, and sanatoriums. Polish mineral waters come in a variety of physical and chemical types, which makes them appropriate for treating a majority of diseases. Some spas are specially adapted for children.

The forms of treatment include baths, mud therapy, mineral drink therapy, inhalations, hydrotherapy, and kinetic therapy. Medical care is highly competent and specialized. Medical staff of most spas collaborate closely with the faculty members of medical academies, e.g., by jointly running consultation and research centers in the spas. This guarantees quality medical services.

There are over forty health spa municipalities in Poland with many health resorts embellished by the palettes of the four seasons. Health spa tourism may become one of the priority quality products directed at foreign markets. With abundant natural values with medicinal qualities, mineral springs, microclimate, etc., the area of Poland is undoubtedly very attractive and competitive as compared with Europe.
