Sárospatak
This small town used to be a favourite estate of the Honourable Prince Ferenc Rákóczi II, who fought for
Hungarian liberty against the Habsburgs. The oldest parts of the Rákóczi Castle (19 Szent Erzsébet Street), rich in
Gothic and Renaissance details, are the Red Tower, the late Renaissance Lorántffy Loggia and the Prince's Palace, in
the rooms of which is housed the Rákóczi Museum. The themes of the Museum's collections are: the history of the Rákóczi
family and the Rákóczi war of independence; aristocratic life and the aristocratic library in the 16th-17th centuries;
wine-growing at Hegyalja; an exhibition of ceramics; and a collection of stone relics.
