Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
From far away one can see on the wooded slope of a hill the monastery complex of the Bernardines with the early
Baroque church of the Angelic Mother of God. South of the monastery is located the famous Calvary paths, along which
more than 40 structures have been built: churches, chapels, wayside shrines, and bridges. Their location in the terrain
imitates the topography of Jerusalem. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska was included on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural
Heritage List in 1999. Today the Calvary sanctuary is an active religious center. In addition to indulgences, of which
the Holy week celebrations with the Mystery Play of the Passion of Christ and the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary
with the processions of the Funeral and the Triumph enjoy the largest attendance, other celebrations are also held
here, some of them of national importance.
